Story
Escale aux Marquises is the third fragrance in Dior’s ‘Escale ?… ’ (Stopover in) Cruise Collection. After the citrusy freshness of Portofino (Italy) and Pondichery (India), this third stopover – still in the citrus family, but with a tea tonality – aims for greater sophistication. Tiare flower is the perfume’s keynote. Still, like its predecessors, Escale aux Marquises has a decidedly citrusy theme that is sure to please women who love colognes. The juice is sweeter, thanks to a very diluted tiare note, but it has been enriched with gently solar facets that evoke a sense of sun-warmed skin. A far cry from the exotic floral or opulent amber that the name and the ingredients listed (tiare flower, vanilla, citrus, spices and benzoin) might have led us to expect. Nevertheless, the result is a pleasantly fresh and sunny eau, in a more refined presentation than its forerunners.
After Portofino and Pondichéry, the Escales collection has opened its doors to a new world. A world that takes us on an exotic journey to French Polynesia, a destination that conjures up a wide range of idyllic images that are deeply rooted in our imagination.
Fran?ois Demachy, Dior Perfumer-Creator, has created a floral, fresh and spicy fragrance using exceptional raw materials that were carefully selected from amongst the region’s finest, which give the perfume its feminine and sensual notes. With a Cologne spirit, the Escale aux Marquises fragrance is orchestrated around a magnificent Tahitian Tiare flower, symbol of welcome and femininity. Spices from the most beautiful islands of the Indian Ocean were also selected to accentuate freshness.
The bottle is dressed in the precious cane motif so dear to the House of Dior and is transparent, revealing a new color of fragrance: a light and exotic shade of sandy pink that is reminiscent of the sweet life in French Polynesia.
Description
Escale aux Marquises Eau de Toilette is a citrus floral and spicy fragrance with sensual and sunny floral freshness.
The fragrance opens on fresh citrusy notes: a sensation
that hangs on for quite a while, even as the scent evolves. A few dazzling spice
notes bridge the citrus to the gentle floral (neroli, freesia) note that comes
next. The tiare is gentler and more salicylic than truly heady or monoi-esque.
The sweet, slightly balmy base can create a sense of the beach in summer, or of
sun-warmed skin.
Bottle
A cylindrical bottle with a silvery cap, both with an engraved wicker pattern.
Top note SWEET ORANGE ESSENCE
Blood orange is a variety of orange that contains anthocyanin, a pigment common in many types of fruit but rarely found in citrus fruit, giving its flesh its reddish color. It is a sweet and tasty fruit and is particularly popular in Italy. Blood orange essence gives off fresh, energizing tones.
Heart note PINK PEPPER
The ‘Pepper Tree’ bears clusters of berries that are used as spice and known as ‘Pink Pepper’ or ‘Brazil Pepper’. Native to South America (Brazil), this tree is now grown on Reunion Island. Red in color and the size of a pepper corn, its berries grow in clusters and emit an intense spicy fragrance. Pink Pepper extract is obtained by using a CO2 extraction technique, which allows the peppercorn to retain its full aroma.
The Tahitian Tiare, which is a small shrub that grows in tropical climates, has snowy white flowers with a sweet and heady fragrance, wavering between Tuberose and Jasmine. Concrete and absolute, with an exotic fragrance and sun-kissed notes, are then obtained by extraction using volatile solvents. The Tiare flower is emblematic of French Polynesia and a sacred symbol of welcome and femininity. Tiare flowers are macerated in Copra Oil in order to produce the famous Monoi of Tahiti.
